Welcome to the GUARDS BRIGADE FINANCE

INTRODUCTION

Guards Brigade was established in 1962 as a special formation, tasked to provide security for the Head of state as the highest political office in the country in conjunction with other security agencies. It also mounts other ceremonial duties as may be required by the office. The Brigade has undergone several changes and transformation in terms of nomenclature, location and strength. The successive commanders have therefore tried to improve the efficiency of the Brigade and maintained the vision of its ... founding fathers. The Brigade has become the pride of the NA thus, in addition to its assigned roles it is seen as an epitome of regimentation in the NA. Guards Brigade Finance can be said to be as old as the establishment of Guards Brigade NA, since it is the custodian of the Brigade funds, accounting records and books. Guards Brigade Finance is responsible for the payment of troops pay and allowances, rendition of accounts, keeping Commander’s imprest account and other financial transactions within the Brigade jurisdiction. Guards Brigade Finance personnel just like every other soldier in Guards Brigade maintains a high standard of regimentation, impeccable dressing which stands them out as a constant reminder of what every personnel of the NA should look like.

HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT

At the inception of Guards Brigade in 1962 came Guards Brigade Finance. The Finance corps posted personnel of Finance to perform financial functions as laid down in the Financial Regulation. At the Brigade Headquarters, a finance officer is posted/Appointed as the Brigade Finance Officer (BFO). The BFO carries out his duties in line with ... the statutory requirement of government. In conformity with their duty, Guards Brigade Finance has to relocate to Abuja on 11 Dec 1991 with the movement of the Presidency to Abuja. This is because Guards Brigade is responsible for the security of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and the FCT in collaboration with other security organizations. The Guards Brigade comprising of Brigade Garrison, 7 Gds Bn and 177 Gds Bn presently have Warrant Officers posted to them as Unit Finance Officers (UFO), who are answerable to the BFO. This development is as a result of CCAFA’s vision of re-branding the Nigerian Army Finance Corps and giving the Nigerian Army a lasting record keeping initiative as buttressed by the conduct of Nigerian Army Biometric Enrollment Exercise (NABEE). The nomenclature changed from BFO to SO1G8 with effect from 2008 due to transformation of the NA designation to CGSS which is universal. Despite several changes and transformation in terms of nomenclature and location, Guards Brigade Finance has had successive meritorious Finance Officers who tried to maintain the vision and good name of the Corps.
