INTRODUCTION


The 6 Division Nigerian Army (6 Div NA) is a newly formed Division among the 10 Divisions of the Nigerian Army. The Division was established to decisively counter the threat of insurgency, terrorism and armed banditry prevalent in the Eastern part of the country.

HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT


6 Div NA became operational with effect from the 7th of November, 2016. The resurgence of militancy, kidnapping, vandalism of critical national infrastructure and protection of lives and property in the Niger Delta has brought about the need for the establishment of the military presence in the region. To this end, the need to activate 6 Div as spelt out in the NA ... ORBAT 2016 became imperative. Consequently, 6 Div NA is responsible for its AOR as enshrined in the ORBAT 2016 and shall be a mixed type of infantry with necessary amphibious capabilities and equipment holdings. The 6 Div Headquarters (6 Div HQ) is located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The division made the following relocations: 2 Brigade (2 Bde) relocated to Uyo from Port Harcourt, 16 Brigade (16 Bde) in Yenagoa and 63 Brigade (63 Bde) in Asaba, with its area of operational responsibilities covering three South-Eastern States of Delta, Rivers,Cross-Rivers and Akwayibom States. The approved mascot is a Python while the approved logo is a Python coiled round with the head protruding forward. The number “6” is superimposed on a background of horizontal yellow ochre (sandy brown), green stripe as well as a blue colour. The motto of the Division is “Stealth and Adaptability”. The history of 6 Division Finance (6 Div Fin) is closely related to the history of 6 Division Nigerian Army. 6 Div Fin came to effect therefore, with the formation of 6 Division Nigerian Army.
